Mark Woods was born in Cardiff, South Wales in 1970. He attended the South
Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education in the city where he gained a distinction
on the Foundation Course. He studied graphic design at Central St Martins College
of Art and Design gaining a BA on his Degree.

After completing his studies Mark worked as a freelance designer for a year with a
number of companies to gain experience in a wide variety of working disciplines.
This included a period with the listings magazine Time Out, both in London and
Amsterdam. He has since worked in London and New York, pursuing a career in
graphics, designing and visualising museum exhibitions. In London he worked
with Brennan & Whalley Ltd. and Event Communications. Projects included the
BBC Experience in London, Our Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, the Millennium
Dome ‘Body Zone’, the Sellafield Visitors Centre and the XVII Commonwealth
Games in Manchester.

In 1998 Mark moved to New York City to work as Senior Graphic / Interpretive
Designer with Lee H. Skolnick Architecture and Design Partnership. Here he
worked on some very exciting and prestigious projects such as the Muhammad Ali
Museum in Louisville, the Chicago Science Centre, and a fantastic childrens’
museum, Pretend City in Orange County, California.

Mark returned to the UK in 2000 and set up his own design agency, Hotrod
Creations Ltd. Graphics was of course still a major part of his work but Mark
now had the opportunity to pursue his first love and illustrate for a number of
clients and agencies including BT, Orange, Sky and HSH NordBank.
Throughout his career Mark has always regarded visualising as his forte. He has
done more and more illustration and painting as the years have gone by. He has
now arrived at the point where he realises that painting and drawing are the areas
that he is most passionate about.

Looking back, this now seems quite obvious considering the number of sketch
books he has amassed since the age of 11 as a schoolboy in Bridgend. He has
always been interested in the environment around him, always looking, always
drawing, and his work is always done on site. He is usually accompanied by passers
by and tourists looking over his shoulder asking the usual questions, “What are you
drawing?” which is often followed by, “Do you work for the council?”.

Mark now lives in North London with his wife Michele and their two sons.
